“Yesterday a long contemplated change in the manner of public worship was consummated at Christ church [sic]. The music was rendered by a surplice choir of men and boys instead of the by the quartet as heretofore. The new choir did not seem to be fully trained, as the Te Deum and the Psalter, which are the most important of the musical parts of the service, were read. The music is under the direction of Dr. Cutler, late of Trinity Church. This change, we understand, was not made without opposition. A small portion of the congregation still cling to the old order of things, and endeavored at the Easter election to secure some church officers for their side. They were, however, signally defeated, only about eight votes out of forty-six being in their favor, and Dr. Ewer has now the undivided support of both wardens and vestrymen.” No further mention of music.
