“…The musical services of the mass were of a high order. Haydn’s ‘Mass No. 1’ was sung by a full choir, with orchestral and organ accompaniment; and at the offertory there was sung an ‘Alma Virgo,’ by Hummel, concerted for soprano solo and chorus, Miss E. F. Cassard being the soloist. The soloists of the mass were: Soprano, Miss Cavanagh; contralto, Miss Toby, of St. Peter’s, Barclay-street; tenor, Mr. Fritch, of St. Peter’s; basso, Mr. Saxor. The musical exercises were conducted by Prof. F. Pecher, organist of St. Peter’s, and Prof. J. H. Gomieu [sic], organist of the new church, presided at the organ.”
