“The Arion Singing Society gave its first musical entertainment of the Summer season, last night, at Terrace Garden, corner of Third-avenue and Fifty-eighth-street. Notwithstanding the heat, a large assemblage gathered to hear the music furnished by this far-famed organization, and join in the festivities of the evening. Not only the members of the Society and their friends, but many other citizens and visitors to the City from distant parts, gathered at the garden in holiday attire and jovial mood to enjoy what they knew would be a fine treat. The music was performed under the direction of Carl Bergman [sic], and consisted of tasteful selections for the orchestra and chorus, quite in keeping with the occasion. [Lists program].

“After the regular musical programme of the evening was finished, the company addressed themselves to the dance, an amusement which at all seasons appears to have an unfailing charm for German hearts and German heels. It was kept up with great hilarity and unflagging vigor until a late hour.

“The entertainment, as a whole, was a very interesting one, and altogether worthy of a society of the renown of the Arion. The Society will give similar entertainments at the Terrae Garden on alternate Saturdays throughout the season.”
