Sensation created by the Lyster Troupe in California.
“A company of singers, engaged for this specialty, including Mr. Frederick Lyster, Mr. Mallette, Mr. Harrison, Mr. W. S. Baker, Miss Minnie Walton, and Miss Emma Howson, appeared there on Monday, in an English version of ‘La Grand Duchess.’”
“The marked improvement in the quality of the afternoon entertainments at Wood’s, merits notice. It is quite certain that to give two attractive representations daily is to perform a difficult task, and the attainder of this object by the management of the Museum is the more creditable on that account, ‘The Grand Duchess,” that is to say an English version of the popular work, is now sung there each day (Saturday excepted,) and fresher extracts from an extended repertory are promised for the future. The artists appearing are [see above]. They supply a most agreeable performance to the afternoon frequenters of the Museum.”
