“The Nilsson matinée at Steinway’s on Saturday was attended by the most fashionable and elegant assemblage of ladies that ever graced a concert. The programme was a repetition of the last Brooklyn one. In her desire to please some of her hearers by simple ballads Mlle. Nilsson should be more careful of selecting nigger songs. ‘Way down upon de Swaney ribber’ is well enough in cork, but not from such a throat as that of the fair Swede.”
