“The Fair now being held in behalf of the new church and parochial schools of St. Ann’s has proved an immense success, and will no doubt prove remunerative. Through the day the serious business of purchasing is transacted, and at night the strains of the Seventh regiment anbd [sic] are combined withit [sic] and relieve the dull progress of barter. The tables, arranged in glittering order, around the immense floor… Promenading is carried on to an extent unusual in such places. But for this the exquisite music furnished by the band is directly responsible. The concert alone is worth much more than the price of admission, and is one of the prominent attractions of the fair.” Continues with description of event but no further mention of music.

“Excellent promenade concerts are given by the 7th Regiment band every evening, at the St. Ann’s Church Fair, in the Academy of Music. [Many of the?] musicians have a high reputation for the performance most suitable on such occasions, and during the past week they have done themselves great [illegible]. Their selections are pleasing and popular.”
