“Immense houses now rule at the American, 444 Broadway, for a truly excellent bill of fare is nightly provided, and some of the best performers in the business are engaged here. . . . Collins, whom we recently noticed, is also a favorite here. In fact, the entire troupe is deserving of ‘honorable mention,’ the girls especially, to whom we ‘tender renewed assurances of our regard.’ An extraordinary novelty is underlined at this house. An evening can be very pleasantly passed at the American.”
