“Mr. Jerome Hopkins gave a matinée on Thursday afternoon at Apollo Hall, which was quite fully attended. Out of the hundred pieces which he placed ‘on call’ thirteen were requested by the audience. It a pleasant and friendly way of giving a concert to let one’s hearers make up the programme. The audience takes a personal interest in the affair, and feels as though it was in some sort the giver of the entertainment.”
