“The excellent company of Mr. Rosenberg returned yesterday to the scene of their earliest success in this country and attracted a large audience of admirers. The opera was Halevy’s tragic ‘Jewess,’ and the principal rôles were filled by Madame Louise Lichtmay, Miss Römer and Messrs. Bernard, Habelmann, Franosch and Formes. Madame Lichtmay is an admirable lyric artiste, and the title rôle in her hands was interpreted with a care and earnestness that our operatic stage has been long a stranger to. In voice and acting Mme. Lichtmay will always be a favorite with the operatic public. Miss Römer shared the honors with her by her clever rendering of the rôle of the Princess Eudoxia. The tenor, Bernard, sang better than on any previous occasion in this city, and it would be difficult to find a more satisfactory Eleazor. A large, well trained chorus and an orchestra of more than ordinary caliber helped to make the opera an entire success. Mr. Neudendorf is an intelligent, careful conductor, and seldom permits the forces under his command to make a mistake, even in the most trifling details.”
