Review: New York Post, 15 June 1871, 2.

“We must protest, however, in the name of the collective nurseries of Christendom against the introduction on the stage of a poor baby of two or three years old, to sing her little song and make her foolish little grimace for the amusement of a set of gaping gazers, who should know better than to applaud. One would think we had enough of sensation and vulgarity, of contortions and painted faces, in the sadder, older years, without setting our children at it in the earliest dew of infancy, with the mother’s milk scarce dry upon their lips.”

“A new overture, arranged by Mr. Henry Tissington, entitled ‘Miscellaneous Warblings,’ introducing many of the latest popular airs, has proved quite an attractive feature during the past week. We are happy to state the Mr. John F. Cole, the future manager of the theatre, has retained Mr. Tissington’s services, which we are assured will meet with the approbation of the public.”
