“The high mass was concluded by a benediction, followed by the Te Deum, from Lambilotte’s Missa Paschale, which opened with the grand chorus, ‘Deus te Laudamus te Deum,’ by the full choir. The effect was magnificent, as the noble burst of thanksgiving filled the church, and almost shook the structure with a flood of melody, breathing the most intense spirit of thankfulness and triumph. It was, indeed, a tribute worthy of be offered to a God by his creatures. Suddenly, as if remembering, in the midst of the joy, the lowliness of their condition and the immensity of the God whom they dared to address, the chorus sank down in the beautiful strains of the ‘Eternu fac cum sanctus suiss inoria.’ And again swelled in the loud appeal in the ‘Salve fac populous tuus Dominus.’ As the music ended the congregation rose and the morning ceremonies concluded.”
