“The Saturday afternoon concerts given at Association Hall combine merit of excellence and cheapness in equal degrees. Some of the best artists are always engaged, and the programmes are attractive and popular, and at the same time contain really good music. This afternoon’s concert takes place at 3 o’clock.”

“The concert given on Saturday afternoon at Association Hall was one of the most agreeable of the series. Madame Varian-Hoffman was the leading vocalist, and gave with ease and grace a ‘laughing song,’ and the popular ballad, ‘Thou art so near.’ She was warmly applauded, receiving in one instance a double encore. As one of our most charming resident vocalists she should be more frequently heard in the concert room.
Miss Tedeska, the violinist, and Mr. Werner, the violoncellist, both attracted much attention by their finished performances. Mr. J. R. Thomas sang acceptably, and the entire concert proved to be one of the most enjoyable of the series.”
