“‘La Perichole’ was again applauded last evening as the most decided hit of the season at the Grand Opera House. The tipsy jollity of the final scene of the second act would alone ensure the success of the piece. Throughout the whole Mlle. Aimée, as La Perichole, by her vivacity, archness and élan, bewitched the audience into forgetfulness even of the charms of Mlle. Irma in the rôle of the street songstress of Lima. M. Gaussin, as Piquillo, approved himself a fin comique of a high order, and although he cannot sing with the magnetic power of M. Aujac, his voice nevertheless has some beautiful notes. Mr. Duchesne reminds one always of General Boum, but as Don Andre de Riberia, Viceroy of Peru, he looked the very picture of a blasé and used-up old nobleman who had been shipped off to Spanish America to recover health and fortune. Mr. Edgard, as Don Pedro de Hinoysa, displayed his invariable excellence. The choruses have greatly improved.”
