“The second rehearsal, prior to the third concert of the Philharmonic Society, took place yesterday afternoon at the Academy of Music, and was as well attended as have been those preceding. Thanks to the new management, the unfortunate individuals who do not possess reserved seats are compelled to listen to the music to better advantage than ever before, simply because they are obliged to take refuge on the seats of the upper tier, where the opportunities for hearing are far better than in the seats below, and the chances of being disturbed proportionately less. At the proper time we shall treat of the programme more at length. For the present it will suffice to say that the pieces selected for rendering are Mozart’s Symphony in D Major, (four movements;) the overture to ‘Sacuntala,’ and an overture, scherzo and finale by Schumann, which latter piece, by the way, is likely to prove the most attractive of all. None of the selections are particularly novel or remarkable, but whatever there is in them is pretty sure to be brought out by Mr. Bergman and his well-trained orchestra.”
