“A most capital variety show is given nightly at the Theatre Comique, where may be found a strong array of performers, each distinguished for more than ordinary merit in his or her peculiar line. The music and stage management is excellent, the best of order is maintained and the performances on the stage are free from vulgarity. That the entertainments here are largely patronized by the fair sex is the best guarantee of their respectability. The programme is interspersed with dramatic sketches, well put on the stage and cleverly performed. Fresh faces that appeared during the past week were Ed. Banker, who appeared in an act called ‘Musical Changes,’ in which he sings three songs in character, the first in a black face, changing to one with white face, which again alternates to black. The changes were rapidly made and the performance was enjoyable.”
