Review: New York Herald, 19 February 1871, 10.

“At Association Hall a new and more commendable style of concerts than those which have been hitherto given here was inaugurated yesterday. The vocal part of the programme was rendered by Miss Ridgway and Messrs. Hill, Thatcher, Aiken, Beckett and Mora, and the instrumental by Grafulla’s Seventh Regiment Band. There was a choice programme and the artists were satisfactory. The band was particularly attractive and rendered selections from Kreutzer, Mattei, Bellini, Offenbach and Strauss, with rare effect. Before this matinée a series of twenty-five cent concerts was given and proved a failure, as concerts at such a price of admission are an insult to the artists who take part in them and an injury to art in general.”

“There was also a matinee at Association Hall, of a more elaborate character than those which usually take place there.”
