“I came away from the C. M. A. rehearsal (28th—Tuesday) a little depressed. The work, beautiful as it is, seemed so shallow after Beethoven. But Williams, the musical critic of the Post, comforted me marvelous much, by saying that though two score of the audience would agree with me, yet all the rest would in their hearts prefer Niedermeyer’s warm high-colored melodies.”
