“Mr. James M. Wehli reappeared at Niblo’s Theatre, yesterday afternoon, when an entertainment was given in aid of Chicago. Mr. Wehli recited his new fantasia on motives from ‘Maritana,’ and awakened the delighted applause to which his last season’s triumphs accustomed him. Like all Mr. Wehli’s compositions, his arrangement of ‘Maritana’ is extremely effective, but the work of adorning Wallace’s tunes has been done with unusual sobriety, the infinite variety of the pianist’s execution quite compensating for the lack of fireworks.”
