“The Swedish nightingale repeated last night before the usual large and brilliantly fashionable audience her matchless impersonation of the Bride of Lammermoor, of which we have already given a detailed account. The performance was even better than on the opening night of the season. The duet at the finale of the first act, the passionate scene with Ashton, the ill-starred nuptials, her wild eagerness at the unexpected return of Edgardo, when she tears the bridal veil from her brow and flings herself in the agony of despair at his feet, and the highly wrought mad scene, which she invests with a terrible naturalness, all made up such a picture as the stage of the Academy has long been stranger to. Brignoli made the part of Edgardo a success, and sang better than has been known to opera-goers for many seasons past.”
