Review: New York Post, 30 December 1871, 2.

“’Martha’ was given at the Academy of Music last night, with Miss Nilsson, Miss Cary and M. Jamet in the parts in which they have hitherto sung here in this opera. Capoul was unwell, and the part of Lionel was sung by Brignoli, who for many years has been highly popular in this character. He sang the M’Appari and in the ‘Good-night’ quartet, with his usual delicacy of voice. Miss Nilsson was, of course, delightful, and pleased everybody; and she was ably seconded by Miss Cary.”
