“Philharmonic rehearsal this afternoon. Very large attendance. Sarasate did a violin concerto by Max Bruch, & Mlle. Corradi sang 'With verdure clad' charmingly, & also a flashy air from Donizetti’s Poliuto. The Schumann symphony is really respectable. In my box were Miss Rosalie [Ruggles], Mr. & Mrs. D’Oremieulx, Mrs. Henrietta Thorndyke, Miss Fanny Delprat, Dick [Richard Henry Derby], & one Corduran—a Bostonee friend of Dick’s, & very whiskery.”
