“Next season promises to be an extremely interesting one in musical matters. In addition to the usual attraction of Italian opera, we shall have a new season of German opera under the able direction of Mr. Carl Anschutz. The experiment of 1862-3 was sufficient to demonstrate that there is a large and reliable class of patrons for this kind of entertainment, not only amongst our German but also amongst our native citizens. An entirely new troupe of artists has been engaged, or will be engaged, in Europe, and the performances will be given in a first-class Broadway theatre, instead of the dirty little establishment at the corner of Broome-street.”
