Review: New-York Daily Tribune, 23 September 1872, 5.

“Messrs. Maguire and Emerson have found an audience fit and not few for their California troupe; and the sojourn of their minstrels at the cosy little theater which was formerly Kelly & Leon’s, and afterward Lina Edwin’s, bids fair to be indefinitely prolonged. The minstrel troupe is the only one now located down town, and it enjoys certain obvious advantages on that account.”

“John Harvey, the trombone player, deserves to be classed among the best performers ever heard in this city.”
