“Dan Bryant has, this season, excelled himself, and his charming little opera house rings nightly with the merriest peals of laughter. His most recent acquisition to the lyric drama is ‘King Karratt,’ a production that must be seen to be appreciated. It is indescribable.”

Review: New York Clipper, 26 October 1872, 238.

“’King Karrot; or, Red Monkey Shines,’ a burlesque, was the chief novelty at Bryant’s Minstrels during the past week, where the attendance continued large. The burlesque is neither funny nor striking, probably because in ‘Le Roi Carrotte’ there are no features sufficiently marked to admit of caricature. It is, however, as yet, hardly in running shape, and it is probable that Dan Bryant and Nelse Seymour will infuse the dialogue with fresh witticisms and hits at local topics to render it more attractive.”
