“A very creditable amateur performance of Bellini’s opera of ‘Norma’ was given at the Terrace Garden Theatre in Forty-eighth street, on Saturday evening, by the lady and gentleman pupils of Mr. Marco Duschnitz. The only professional actor among the performers was Signor Boy, who assumed the role of Pollione. Miss Henriquez, the Norma of the evening, sang with much taste and occasional brilliancy. She was frequently applauded, and may fairly congratulate herself on having achieved a genuine success in the accomplishment of a very difficult task.
The most noticeable feature in the performance was the perfect training of the chorus, which, although small, was very effective, and reflected great credit upon the teacher. The production of such a difficult work as ‘Norma’ by amateurs was a bold experiment, and Mr. Duschnitz deserves credit for his enterprise.”
