“A Grand Change of Programme at Each Performance.”
“…Mr. Ashcroft sang Irish character songs, the first being that of a female peanut vendor, in which he had hitherto won considerable reputation in this city. On his appearance he met with a most cordial reception, and his make-up, dancing and singing alike deserve commendation. In response to encores he gave ‘The Irish Dancing Master,’ and two songs-and-dances, one Irish, the other in military character. Miss Kitty Brooke, who has a charming personal appearance, was richly and tastily costumed, and won much favor from the audience by her pleasing singing of several new serio-comic songs…Billy Carter sang songs, with banjo accompaniment and interpolated witty remarks, most of which were fresh…Master Barney sang Dutch character songs, which met with favor. The attendance during the week was excellent. A new and capacious entrance leading from Broadway to the parquet and reserved seats is now being constructed, the store numbered 567 being used for that purpose. The present entrance will be retained will be retained and used solely for ingress and exit of the patrons of the gallery.”
