“Grafulla’s Seventh Regiment Band gave a concert last evening at their armory. The performance opened with Rossini’s lovely overture, ‘La Gazza Ladra,’ which was followed by selections from Bellini, Lumbye, Verdi, Strauss, Mercadante, Abt &c. The spirit, precision of time and homogeneity of expression displayed in the rendering of those selections testify to the excellent materials of the band, the constant practice together they have enjoyed, and the unremitting exertions of the leader to attain the highest standard of merit in military music.”
