“Last night of the season.”

“A noble performance of ‘Aida’ at the Academy of Music last night threw into strong relief the best qualities of Torriani, Cary, Campanini, Nannetti and Del Puente. The latter artists sang better than ever before, and at the same time acted with such splendid force that the audience interrupted the progress of the opera to call him before the footlights. The artists were all in good voice, but Cary and Campanini have fallen into the bad habit of omitting the duet at the beginning of the last act. Such music as ‘Aida,’ sung by such artists, is so valuable that the audience does not like to lose a single note of it.”

“’Aida’ was given for the last time last evening at the Academy of Music. Strange to say, considering the terrible strain on the voices of Miss Cary, Campanini, Del Puente and Nannetti which five performances of ‘Lohengrin’ must necessarily produce, the representation of ‘Aida’ last night was in every respect better than any of its predecessors. The tenor was in his best voice and the barytone was fully equal to Maurel.”
