“There was a promenade concert last evening at the Armory of the Seventh Regiment, but the general pleasures of the evening passed beyond those of the ordinary concert entertainment. The Seventh Regiment are, in fact, well pleased with their Colonel, and with the view of manifesting their satisfaction, have presented him with some handsome pieces of plate… The interesting ceremony took place in the spacious drill-room of the Armory, and was certainly the central attraction of the entertainment. The excellent concert of Grafulla’s Band may, therefore, be regarded in some sense as supplementary, but it was, at all events, as attractive as the repute of that band would naturally indicate. Although the inclement weather might be supposed to limit the attendance to a considerable extent, yet the room was well filled. The musical programme had abundant variety, and contained among other items a special composition by Mr. Grafulla, dedicated to Col. Emmons Clark, and appropriate to the presentation of the evening. After the first portion of the musical programme the presentation took place. [Quotes speeches given.]
Supplementary to the entertainment of the evening there was a social gathering at No. 9 Lafayette place, at which a handsome copy of the special music prepared for the occasion was presented to the Colonel of the regiment.”
