“It takes two pages of the Bill of Play to contain the manifold attractions presented at the Olympic Theatre and, figuratively speaking, almost half the night to reach the farce that so appropriately ends the entertainment. ‘High Jack, the Hecter,’ in farce vies with Signor Abecco in pathetic song, and Sheridan and Mack in their characteristic acts are sandwiched between Allen’s Minstrels and ‘Happy Moments.’ There are other acts too numerous to mention, and the general effect is somewhat chaotic, but the show goes on with a galloping rattle that pleases its patrons, and the house is filled nightly.”
“Allen’s Minstrels gave a first-part. John Allen and Joe Lang were on the ends in black faces, and the remainder appeared without cork upon their countenances. Signor Abecco was the interlocutor, and, with the exception of S. Holdsworth and G. H. Clark, the troupe was made up of the members of the orchestra and some twelve ladies seated in a semicircle upon a raised platform in the rear of the males. Their performances were quite satisfactory. Miss Alicia Jourdan, who made her metropolitan debut, sang character songs with quick changes. She is a fair vocalist, and displayed several suits of male attire of nearly faultless fit.”
