“The closing piece of the evening was the burlesque of ‘Lucretia Borgia.’ For an extravaganza, it was most extravagantly stupid, both in acting and in construction. To be at all successful burlesque should have the merit of brightness; its jokes should be fresh, the business new and the acting good. None of these does this piece possess. Miss Harrison as Gennaro was as bad as was Miss Montague as Orsini, and the rest of the company were about on the same level. It was painful at times to listen to the singing. If burlesque is to be given at all let it be given good or not at all.”
