“With Ellie to C. M. A. rehearsal at Trinity Chapel Schoolhouse. Room quite full—scarcity of seats. Mass from Credo to finale. Mme. Bishop, Mrs. Kempton, & Danks attended, & Rev. Cooke volunteered the tenor solo part, so the passages for the soli appeared in their proper places. This comforts & stimulates the chorus. The joyous choruses from Preciosa were also worked upon. Satisfactory evening. From the Et incarnatus to the end of the Credo, Haydn’s flight is wonderfully strong & sustained. Thence forward he flags a little, but the work for the soli is so prominent & so elegant that this portion of the Mass will certainly find favor.”
