“Philharmonic rehearsal (private) this afternoon. Mozart’s symphony in D, with the lovely trio—Goldmark’s overture to Sacontala (a Sanscrit overture)—Schumann’s Overture, scherzo & finale. Mlle. Tedesca, a nice-looking brunette, had a hearing from the Society at her earnest request, & played a violin concerto by Spohr. But they think her execution not up to the Philharmonic standard & will not enlist her for the next concert. She will be badly disappointed.”
