“The ‘New-Yorker Sängerrunde’ celebrated its 26th anniversary yesterday evening with a concert directed by Herr Carl Bergmann in the elegantly decorated Germania Assembly Rooms. The Sängerrunde sang the ‘Wächterlied aus der Neujharsnacht des Jahres 1200’ by Gernsheim; a powerful, lively composition, ‘Die blaue Nacht,’ by Abt; and a new song, ‘Deutsch,’ by Matzka. The latter is the work of a properly trained musician; it is excellently crafted but difficult and thankless, and in any case calculated for a large choir. Nevertheless, the song was, like all the others, performed valiantly and met with great applause. Herr Remmertz admirably sang Reinecke’s ‘Almanfor,’ a very pleasing song, which will probably become a fast favorite here. A young pianist named Marquard also contributed to the success of the concert.”
