“A vocal and instrumental concert will take place tomorrow night in the Central Park Garden, arranged by the singing societies of the West Side, all proceeds of which will benefit the German Hospital. Herr Karl [sic] Bergmann will conduct the choir and orchestra. There will also be solo and ensemble performances.” Lists soloists.

Begins with a list of participating choirs. “We had expected that this concert would be very well attended, but we were still surprised when, at 8 o’clock, the hall, Logengallerie, and Nebenräumlichkeiten were so full that even standing room was difficult to procure. The proceeds will nearly reach the same sums raised this summer by the larger societies of the East Side. The most successful numbers on the program were the two large choruses from ‘Zauberflöte’ and ‘Rienzi,’ which were performed correctly [correkt], with zest and fire by the impressive group of singers under Karl Bergmann’s direction. The choirs received enthusiastic applause. The individual performances of the societies were especially interesting, because they provided a benchmark for comparing the clubs; the performance of the ‘Heinebund’ stood out in particular. On average the clubs sang quite well. The tenor, Herr Karl Bernard (who was in very good voice last night), the rest of the soloists, and the orchestra (made up of capable musicians) all satisfied. The singers of the West Side can congratulate themselves for the shining success of their charitable endeavor.”
