Probably the last chance to hear Ortolani in her successful role as Violetta Valéry.

“On Saturday last at the matinee the ‘Traviata’ was given to a much larger house than we expected to see, owing to the very bad weather. The performance was most satisfactory.

Mme. Ortolani Brignoli was in fine voice, and was heard to great advantage.

Mazzoleni, who the evening previous had sung the arduous role of Gianco in ‘Ione’ was nevertheless in good voice at the matinee, and sang and acted in his usual spirited manner. He was much applauded.

Bellini was as vehement both in voice and action as usual, and achieved his customary success.”

". . . . La Traviata didn't have the same luck at Saturday's matinee [as Ione had had--that of attracting a large audience], which didn't stop the artists from singing it conscientiously."
