“Mrs. John Wood added another bright little piece to her programme last night. It was called ‘Mischief Making,’ and, like everything else played at this theatre, belongs to a past period, when farce writing had not absolutely sunk into disrepute. [Plot synopsis.] We have rarely seen this exuberant and thoroughly jolly artist [Mrs. Wood] to greater advantage. Her buoyancy and volatility were absolutely intoxicating. People left the house with sore eyes and red faces, as though they had been having a night of it. A medley song, introduced by Mrs. John Wood, was excellently sung; so much so that the audience almost perpetrated the cruelty of encoring it.”
