“Mr. Gottschalk will present one of his beloved concerts tonight at Niblo’s Salon. Mme. D’Angri, Mme. Varian, Mlle. Barnetche and Messrs. Mollenhauer, Schwartz and Carlo Patti will join him.”

“A very numerous audience, in high order of music, and a cordial sympathy between the artists and their hearers, made the third concert of Gottschalk last night a memorable success. He never played better himself, and never showed his artistic capabilities to a greater advantage. He was ably assisted by Miss Barnetche, who seems to infuse Oriental fire and intensity into her performances. Carlo Patti made a great impression on his audience by the graceful and finished manner in which he performed on the violin the ever-welcome ‘Sounds from Home,’ by Gungl. The singing of Madame D’Angri, good as it always is, received very warm applause, but the heart of the audience was evidently with the warbling Madame Varian, who to lady-like manners, pre-possessing appearance and intelligence, adds a quality of voice and a refined method of using it which place her among the most attractive of concert singers. Madame Varian was enthusiastically received last night, and fully realized the anticipation of her friends.”

“Gottschalk gave two more concerts at Niblo’s Saloon last week, at which the same persons assisted as during the week previous; except that on the 2d instant Mme. Varian appeared. The house was full to the doors on both occasions, and the choice selections made by Gottschalk were well executed by the several artists, and conferred unqualified gratification upon all who heard. He announces another ‘farewell’ at the same place for the 10th inst., and if he fares as well in that as in the four previous ones, it will be a fare well indeed.”
