“The rampant winds and swashing rains did not help the concerts. . . .
. . . There was some show of an audience at Irving Hall. Mr. Campbell had an immense reception and most sonorously filled the hall—which, by the way, is magnificently constructed for lyrics. Mrs. Kempton sang as the great beauty and brilliancy, and drew forth encores. The same sweet fate attended Mrs. Mozart, and indeed the audience hammered away so that they received double the worth of their money. The Castle, too, was in fine voice. Messrs. Theodore Thomas, and Mr. Pattison severally distinguished themselves on the violin and the piano.”

“Mr. S.C. Campbell gave a concert at Irving Hall, assisted by Mrs. Mozart, Mrs. Jenny Kempton, and Mr. J.N. Pattison. In spite of the unfavorable weather, the attendance was quite satisfactory.”
