“A select orchestra of from thirty to forty of the best musicians of the City will perform every night from 7 to 10 o’clock, under the direction of Messrs. Reitzel [sic] & Noll, at the Union-square Music Hall (East end.) Price of admission, 50 cents.
The following extra performance will take place during the present week, to commence at 6 o’clock P.M. . . .
Wednesday, April 6.—The Celebrated Amateur Vocal Society, known as the German Liederkranz, under the direction of Mr. A. Paur, together with several eminent Solo Performers.”
“The Fair building on Union-square was formally opened with appropriate ceremonies and a grand concert by the German Liederkranz, assisted by Mr. E. Mollenhauer and a select orchestra of forty performers. The exercises commenced by a selection from the national airs, given by the band. . . .
The programme of the concert was carried out in full, the music, both instrumental and vocal, being beyond all praise.”
