“The performance last evening at this theatre was for the benefit of Mr. Thomas Baker, the popular musical director.  The audience was not large—owing to the bad weather and other anti-theatrical influences—but the cordial manner in which Mr. Baker was received upon his appearance in the orchestra was almost sufficient to compensate for the annoyance of a bad house.  ‘The Chimney Corner’ was represented for the first time at the Olympic.”
