“Theatrical people are much interested in a complimentary benefit to be given at the Academy of Music on the 19th instant to Dan Bryant, the popular negro minstrel, and the letter proffering the benefit was signed by a number of prominent citizens, headed by Mayor Gunther.  On the occasion Bryant will play ‘Handy Andy’—for the entertainment will be purely histrionic—and Floyd of Wallack’s Theatre will have charge of the stage arrangements.”
