“The piece opens with a fairy ballet, which is followed by the appearance of the Fairy Queen, who is transformed by magic into a hideous Mother Goose, and is followed by the veritable goose that saved Rome, on a large scale, which is done most admirably by M. Baptiste, drawing forth roars of laughter.  The whole nine scenes embrace the most humorous comicalities and transformations, needing only to be seen to be highly appreciated. . . . We predict for Mother Goose at least a three months run.”

“HIPPOTHEATRON MATINEE—This house was crowded to overflowing yesterday with ladies and juveniles, assembled to see the new comic pantomime, which was presented, with all the other attractions of the circle, for their especial benefit at a matinee. We have rarely seen an audience enjoy themselves more thoroughly than on this occasion.”

“We have been to see ‘Mother Goose,’ and in addition beheld on all sides happy, smiling faces, and this is not to be wondered at, for ‘angels with all our spleens would all themselves laugh mortal’ if they had a chance to behold the quaint antics of the funny clown. . . . Marietta Zanfretta is a beautiful and graceful Columbine, and M. Carron shows by his agility that nature intended him for a Harlequin. . . .The costumes have been well selected, the tricks are new, the company is excellent, the music is inspiring, the situations are ridiculous, and we must affirm, judging from our own experience, that ‘a merrier hour there never was.’
