“We are glad to see that Norma will be produced this evening, as this opera affords an opportunity for those fine dramatic effects with which Mlle. Zucchi invests the character of the Druidess, and which have already stamped her rendition of it with the seal of public approbation. We regard Norma as one of Zucchi’s very best parts.”

“The house . . . last night was very full, and, as usual, very fashionable. Zucchi was magnificent in Norma. The Casta Diva was sung with immense power, and was loudly encored. Massimiliani was excellent as Pollio; the duo of Zucchi and Morensi was very fine, and had to be repeated. Zucchi is, we think, the best Norma we have had for some years. In the impassioned passages of the opera she is sometimes sublime. Morensi’s Adalgisa affords a good opportunity for the play of her full, pure voice, and that attractive presence which appears in many parts to so much advantage.”
