Review: New York Herald, 08 December 1864.

“The fine melodies, attractive story and dramatic incident of Poliuto render that opera always acceptable.  It was presented at the Academy last night in a manner perhaps superior to any representation by the same cast this season.  Zucchi and Massimilliani were both in excellent voice, and sung with great purity and brilliancy.  Zucchi’s acting was never finer than in the second act.  The sextet finale was encored with much enthusiasm.  The favorite duo in the third act had to be three times repeated.  The artists were called before the curtain twice during the evening, and very cordially applauded.”

"We don't need to repeat what we've already said about the great singer [Carozzi-Zucchi] in Poliuto. We had never understood that opera before she [came] to New York."
