      “….The second concert that we discuss [see concert by Mlle Barnetche on 12/08/64] is that of Mlle. Krolikowska, the rival of Mlle. Barnetche; between these two pianists, it would be impossible for the connoisseur to declare which was the best. They shine with different qualities, but the sum is equal in both, so that one can’t explain one’s preference. Mlle Krolikowska was applauded in a piece from Lucia [Lucia di Lammermoor] (the eternal Lucia!) and above all in the infernal waltz from Robert [Robert le Diable] arranged by Listz [sic], a piece beset with difficulties which the pianist executed to her honor.

      M. Salias, who was heard in the same concert, is not an ordinary violinist. Among those whom we know in New York, we can only compare him with M. Appy, who gives concerts rarely, and is at this moment the first violin in M. Maretzek’s orchestra. We have already spoken of M.
