“The season at the Academy closed last night.  The house was crowded to the utmost capacity by a highly fashionable audience.  Zucchi was a splendid in Norma as on her first performance of the part, and gained fresh claims to the rank of an artist of exceeding merit.  Massmiliani sang Pollio better than before.  His voice was in excellent condition.  The duets of the soprano and contralto, in the first and third acts, were encored, and the artists called before the curtain on each occasion.  The opera season opens in Boston in the early part of next week, whither the company will depart today.”

“’Norma’ was given here last evening to one of the finest houses of the season.  It brought Mr. Maretzek’s campaign to an end. . . . The performance last evening was thoroughly satisfactory—all the artists were in fine voice; the applause was frequent, and the impression left was decidedly favorable to Mr. Maretzek’s return.”
