Bateman’s concert ensemble is the largest that will perform this winter season. The ensemble will open the new Steinway & Sons Concert Hall. The hall should be finished by the beginning of December. It is supposed to be reserved only for big performances of fine taste. Next winter oratorios such as “Samson” by Händel and “Elias” by Mendelssohn are planned to be performed by organist Dr. Cutler there. One highlight of the ensemble is Mrs. Parepa. Others are Mills (piano), Levy (cornet), Rosa (violin) and Ramsbottom (French horn). The ensemble is large enough to have part of them perform in New York and the other half to tour through the country. Arrangements are already underway for one performance a week at the Academy of Music, and two performances a week at the Brooklyn Opera House. The organizer of the performances, Mr. Harrison, is also the owner of Irving Hall. He will only open his venue for balls and smaller concerts.
