“Produced her[e] last evening with complete success. It is from the experienced pen of Mr. William Brough, with additions by a local dramatist who has done his work well, and not too obtrusively. The story is the legend on which Shakespeare is supposed to have founded his ‘Winter’s Tale.’ We give this statement with all the gravity of the official announcement. It indicates sufficiently the scope of the piece. The jokes are excellent, and the performance in every respect was satisfactory. The dresses were especially good and the scenery sufficed. There were spirit and effort in everything that was done. Those who see the philosophy of laughter will do well to witness this well-produced, well-written and well-acted burlesque.”
