“This has been a day of refreshing--a gracious season of good music. Heard the Fourth Symphony rehearsed (with Ellie) at Steinway Hall 10 a.m. The room was scarcely half full and Beethoven’s beautiful sparkling music came out perfectly clear and bright, none of it being absorbed or muffled by a great area of skirts and shawls and furs and all sorts of feminine fixings.  The Philharmonic orchestra seems in very good condition this season.”
